Wind farms are bad for the environment?

So here I was this whole time thinking that I wanted to see more wind farms everywhere because it's such a great idea and superb technology, then I read this. Seems like maybe all the turbulence created by the blades can bring higher speed winds down from the atmosphere and dry out the soil, while raising temperatures in the immediate area.  This makes it sound like maybe they would speed up global warming.  I'm not sure that it's worse than burning gas, though.  Still, I think that maybe my ideas is still the best.  It works like this.

We all get transformers like the extreme green energy guys get, where they can generate their own electricity and sell it back to the power company when they make more than they use.  Then we all get our choice of exercise equipment that generates electricity back into the grid, which we get credit for on our bills.  I guess we can't really make a lot of power individually right now, but there is a gym charging batteries, and a company making more efficient and productive exercise equipment.  First, maybe we'd all get a little more exercise and not be so overweight, cutting our medical expenses, and all for the opportunity to save some money on the electric bill, with the bonus of being more green.  Only downside is the initial cost.  I'm gonna look into that.
