Dietary supplementers, beware!

The FDA has issued ANOTHER recall on some dietary supplements; this time the offender is Hydroxycut.  Apparently it may be the culprit of some liver damage.

When are people going to start realizing that they can't just put crap into their bodies?  I really thought that those poor kids dieing from heart attacks and strokes after the ephedra craze would change some things, but I was sadly wrong.

Dr. Stephen Novella, who runs a podcast called "The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe" (check out the link in my sidebar), put it best.  "Supplents that claim to have 'drug-like' effects really don't have drug-like effects, because if they did, that would MAKE them drugs and the FDA would regulate them."

And just because Hydroxycut is supposedly "natural" didn't keep anyone safe, whether or not it actually hurt them.  Arsenic and bird crap are also both natural, but I won't be mixing them in my coffee anytime soon.

It just sucks to see companies taking advantage of people who want to lose some weight, and then injure them in the process over some money.  Bottom line people, it is going to take great nutrition, lots of dedication, and plenty of exercise if you want to fit into that sexy lingerie, so don't bother with short cuts.
