What's up with people around here?

It never really occured to me until the other day just how different people are up here in Virginia.  I just haven't really come across any gearheads.  There is a kid down the street with an old Firebird that he says he's putting an engine in, but I haven't seen it, or any tools, and he asked me how gas would get into his oil.  There was a guy next door who bought a new Honda Civic, and PRETENDED it was a race car.  He didn't even put a wing on it, so I know it wasn't REALLY fast (wink wink).  I haven't seen a single salvage yard OR speed shop while I was driving around.  I don't even see anybody pushing the pedal down crusing the highway, unless they're behind me and it's dark and raining and 60 mph isn't fast enough.

In Florida, seemed like nearly everyone could talk cars, walking around in Nascar jackets, working on a car or pretending to at least.  I'm starting to feel like I'm on my own with this hobby of mine.  I might have to take up golfing or something.
