Another double standard
Blog hoppin led me to an interesting post about women's hair, or rather the lack thereof. The basic premise is that while men can shave their heads without reprise, women who do the same automatically set themselves into a category of femi-nazis or rebels raging against the machine. While it's important not to forget that there are medications, genes, and illnesses that can cause hair loss for women, even sick women with bald heads get thrown into the category of undesireables. I think the general thought is perceived to be "Hmmm, bald chick. Either sick or weird."
To be fair, I don't think that all women who shave their heads voluntarily are simply trying to make a statement, nor do I think that all women who lose their hair are sick or weird. Conversely, I don't think that all guys should shave their heads, either. Some of them just look plain f'in goofy and can't pull it off. Women are the same way.
